Highlights

INDULGE

Conceived as a forest within a forest, this stunning Six Senses property is located amidst dense blue pine trees, right by the river.

RELAX

If peace and exclusivity are what you seek, look no further: the resort’s setting is a visual and auditory delight close to hallowed temples and monasteries and imbues visitors with an uncommon sense of serenity.

EXPLORE

Unrivaled natural beauty, spirituality and cultural pursuits

With endless hiking and biking trails, ancient traditions still intact and impressive architectural marvels to explore, there is something for every traveler to Bhutan. Six Senses staff are passionate about their eco credentials. Sustainability is paramount here, from eco-friendly water and waste management to a focus on green energy, thus preserving the ethos of the world’s only carbon-negative country.

DRINK & DINE AT THE RESORT

Food is impressive, starting with breakfasts. Try the delicious regional Bhutanese Thup, a red rice porridge with chicken, spring onions and Sichuan pepper or opt for avocado toast with poached eggs. Fresh fruit and buckwheat waffles are also on the menu. Lunch and dinner offers a platter of momo (traditional dumplings filled with turnip tops, chicken, coriander and ginger) or a charred pumpkin risotto or a Bhutanese chicken curry.

The Phobjikha Valley green salad is a lighter choice and comprises broccoli, green beans, peas, avocado, toasted hazlenuts and marinated local cheese. If you have a head for heights you could pair these dishes with a Bhutanese wine, but if you need t adjust to the altitude, it is better to steer clear of alcohol.

THE RESORT

The lodge has eight beautifully appointed suites and one two-bedroom villa comprising the property. Traditional Bhutanese fare is offered for diners to partake in authentic local cuisine, while at the wellness spa, stress melts away following a Bhutanese hot stone bath.

Floor-to-ceiling windows provide exceptional views, interiors are clean and contemporary, while recycled wood furnishings and timber walls deliver a sense of warmth.

As one of the branches of the Six Senses Bhutan umbrella, it is directly connected to the four other Six Senses hotels in Bhutan’s west. Located close to the river and within dense blue pine forests, Six Senses Bumthang sits in the spiritual heart of Bhutan.

How to get to Six Senses Bumthang

Take a most memorable drive with dramatic landscapes of terraced farmland, deep river valleys and precariously perched farmhouses. On the way up, it’s not uncommon to see herds of yaks and if you’re lucky, the occasional quick sightings of wild boar, deer, rare pheasants and other native animals.

From Gangtey, you’ll enjoy a memorable drive through dramatic landscapes of terraced farmland and picturesque deep river valleys with seemingly precariously perched farmhouses, all viewed from the only east-west highway that has been ingeniously carved out of the mountain.
