The Peninsula Hong Kong - China
China is a populous nation in East Asia whose vast landscape encompasses grassland, desert, mountains, lakes, rivers and more than 14,000km of coastline. Capital Beijing mixes modern architecture with historic sites such as the Forbidden City palace complex and Tiananmen Square. Shanghai is a skyscraper-studded global financial center. The iconic Great Wall of China runs east-west across the country’s north.
Classic itineraries often rush visitors between the Forbidden City, The Great Wall, the Terracotta Army, Chengdu’s panda sanctuaries and a Three Gorges cruise, finishing up in frantic Shanghai.
The Great Wall, China: Trip of a Lifetime – The Great Wall of China is one of the greatest sights in the world — the longest wall in the world, an awe-inspiring feat of ancient defensive architecture. Its winding path over rugged country and steep mountains takes in some great scenery.
Beijing: Modern, Ancient or cultural – As one of the world’s great ancient capitals, and the capital city of the world’s upcoming second superpower, Beijing is the most important and interesting Chinese city, both for tourism and for appreciating China.
Shanghai: Shanghai has a long history as a gateway to China on the Yangtze River Delta. It is the largest economic and trade center in China, and one of China’s cultural centers. Shanghai’s colonial past is retained in the Bund and cosmopolitan air. Shanghai is at the front line of China’s economic development. The Pudong district’s prosperous features are guaranteed to wow visitors.
Chengdu: Chengdu is well-known for lovely giant pandas, and they are the No. 1 reason that people visit Chengdu. In Chengdu, you can not only see giant pandas and panda cubs; you can also take care of them as a panda keeper. Chengdu is also famous for delicious Sichuan food like kung pao chicken and hotpot. You can experience cooking the most authentic Sichuan cuisine with a local chef. Chengdu is a large but relaxed city, with many natural, cultural, and historical sights in and around it.
Sanya: Sanya city, backed by its famous mountains and facing the sea, is a garden city full of coconut palms and other verdant splendors. Within the city is the Nanshan Buddhism Cultural Tourism Zone, with its wonderful sculptures of zoological and Buddhist themes, and the Tianyahaijiao Tourism Zone featuring a sculpture cluster of historical figures.
Hong Kong: Hong Kong has developed from a small fishing village in the 1800s into a dynamic and thrilling 21st century cosmopolitan metropolis. It is a bustling coastal city full of impressive high rises, and a fusion of eastern and western cultures. It proudly proclaims itself to be ‘Asia’s World City’ and remains a key gateway to China.
Macau: Macau, also spelled Macao, is a tiny Chinese territory that is about 30 square kilometers in size. It is a fusion of East and West in lifestyles, architecture, and food. Known for its huge casinos and being the world’s top gambling city, it boasts some popular attractions for tourists to visit.
When to go: The best weather is during spring (March until May, but avoid Easter) and autumn (late September to early November) but hotel rates are higher at those times. Prices are lower in the shoulder seasons: February/early June and September/late November/December.
Many will prefer to avoid the three main Chinese public holidays: Chinese New Year (also called Spring Festival, usually falling in late January or early February), May holiday (the first week of May) and National Day (the first week of October). Tourist attractions become very crowded at this time.
Some trips are seasonal, such as those to catch the rhododendron valleys of Shangri-La in bloom, birdwatching in Napahai Lake and, for example, the Harbin International Ice & Snow Sculpture Festival.
